Semax

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) derived from a fragment of ACTH(4–10). It is studied as a nootropic and neuroprotective peptide and has been used in research contexts in Russia since 1996.

The most replicated mechanism is rapid upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its TrkB receptor, which are central to synaptic plasticity and learning. Studies also report increases in NGF and NT-3 and modulation of stress- and inflammation-related genes.

Research applications focus on cognition, memory, attention and neuroprotection in laboratory and animal models, largely on the basis of its neurotrophic signaling effects.

Store the lyophilized powder at -20°C for long-term stability, away from light. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water added slowly down the vial wall, swirl gently rather than shaking, and refrigerate the reconstituted solution at 2–8°C.
